Awarded for operational service on land in Italy, Sicily, Greece, Yugoslavia, the Aegean, and the Dodecanese, Corsica, Sardinia and Elba, 11th June 1943 to 8 May 1945. Also to Navy and Air Force for service in the Mediterranean. The colours of the ribbon are representative of the Italian flag.

Approximately 4,700 were issued to Australians.
